Staying on Track When on Vacation
Vacation doesn't mean you need to abandon your routine
The Hurricane Wave: Staying on Track to Hit Your Fitness Goals on Vacation
We all getting back from Vacation over this past weekend. Vacation is the perfect time to relax, explore new places, and enjoy some much-needed downtime. But that doesn't mean your fitness goals have to take a backseat. With a little planning and the right mindset, you can stay on track and still have an amazing time. Here's how:
1. Prioritize Your Steps
One of the easiest ways to stay active on vacation is by prioritizing your steps. Whether you're exploring a new city or lounging on a beach, find ways to incorporate more walking into your day. Opt for walking tours, take the stairs instead of the elevator, and stroll along the shoreline instead of staying put. Set a daily step goal to keep yourself accountable, and you'll be surprised at how much activity you can rack up without even realizing it.
2. Focus on Protein When Eating Out
Vacation often means indulging in delicious food, and that's totally fine! But if you want to keep your nutrition in check, make protein your priority when eating out. Whether you're at a fancy restaurant or grabbing a quick bite, look for meals that are rich in lean protein—think grilled chicken, fish, or steak. Not only will protein keep you fuller for longer, but it also helps maintain muscle mass, even if your workout routine is a bit more relaxed than usual.
3. Choose Less Sugary Alcoholic Beverages
Enjoying a cocktail or two is all part of the vacation experience, but sugary drinks can quickly add up in calories. If you're planning to indulge, opt for less sugary alcoholic beverages. Drinks like vodka soda, tequila with lime, or a glass of wine are better options that won't derail your progress. Remember to stay hydrated with water in between drinks to keep your body feeling good and avoid unnecessary calorie intake.
4. Do Bodyweight Exercises
Just because you don't have access to a gym doesn't mean you can't get a good workout in. Bodyweight exercises are a fantastic way to maintain your strength and fitness on the go. A quick circuit of push-ups, squats, lunges, and planks can be done anywhere, whether it's in your hotel room or on the beach. Aim for 15-20 minutes of bodyweight exercises a few times during your vacation to keep your muscles engaged and your metabolism boosted.
Stay Balanced and Enjoy Your Vacation
Remember, vacation is about enjoying yourself, and part of that is finding a balance that works for you. Incorporating these tips into your trip will help you stay on track with your fitness goals while still allowing you to relax and indulge. After all, fitness is a lifestyle, and it's all about making choices that support your long-term health and well-being.
Stay strong, stay active, and have a fantastic vacation!
